Camp Triumph!

🎵Carolina on My Mind🎵

Broadway for Arts Education is teaming up with the Terrie Hess Child Advocacy Center in Salisbury, NC to bring our leadership curriculum for marginalized youth into a brand new community. This Fall, a team of interns from rural Rowan County, NC will work alongside our youth interns in New York City to produce a reading of The Normal Heart on World AIDS Day (Dec 1 @ The LGBT Center in Manhattan- SAVE THE DATE!), all while learning skills to confidently share their assets (what they love about themselves) with the world.

The mission of the Terrie Hess Child Advocacy Center (THCAC) is to serve the needs of all children and families utilizing best practices in prevention, investigation, prosecution, and healing child abuse. Opened in 2002, the nationally accredited Terrie Hess Child Advocacy Center has served thousands of children and families at no cost to them. Their services include family advocacy, forensic interviews, comprehensive medical exams, outreach and education, and mental health therapy.

We kicked off the partnership with Camp Triumph, a day camp for children in Rowan County who are survivors of abuse and trauma. BAE staff members Brittany, Trae, and Ben worked alongside THCAC therapists and social workers to lead music, movement, and theater games, make friendship bracelets, and even made a song about everyone’s favorite camper: Murphy, the therapy dog!

The collaboration between The Terrie Hess Child Advocacy Center (THCAC) and Broadway for Arts Education (BAE) was an outstanding success.  Our campers were introduced to the arts through song, play, dance and creative activities that reinforced Camp Triumph Core Camp Goals.  Our campers learned how the Arts can be used as coping skills to self-regulate, identify personal strengths, and learned strategies to push through new levels of comfort zones.   This experience left a lasting impression on how the arts can be used as a powerful tool of expression.   The success of this collaboration could be seen on the faces of our campers.  Thanks BAE...You Rock!”
