GLAAD Awards

We were so honored to have members of our Urban Assembly, Youth Pride Chorus, and Broadway Ambassador programs selected to sing at the 30th annual GLAAD Awards. Led by Tony-nominee Caitlin Kinnunen from Broadway’s The Prom, we performed “Unruly Heart,” for thousands at the New York Hilton, and a global TV audience. It was an unforgettable honor to belt our faces off, proclaiming these beautiful lyrics in the name of accelerating acceptance for queer and marginalized communities around the world:

And though I don't know how or when
But somehow I learned to see
No matter what the world might say
This heart is the best part of me

So fear's all in the past
Fading so fast
I won't stay hidden any more
I'm who I am
And I think that's worth fighting for

And nobody out there
Ever gets to define
The life I'm meant to lead
With this unruly heart of mine

But perhaps the most magical thing to happen that evening occurred off the stage as youth from our Urban Assembly programs, who seldom have a chance to experience queer culture in such a celebrated and vivid way, listened to speeches given by Madonna, Anderson Cooper, Shangela, Rosie O’Donell, and more. Watching our youth from various corners of the city grow as performers, friends, and allies of the course of the event exemplifies what Broadway’s Babies is all about, that we are #bettertogether!
