In March 2023, BAE launched its CENTER BAE program, a 12-week paid-internship for 7 LGBTQ+ & allied young adults interested in learning more about careers on- and off-stage in the Broadway industry. Participants learned from Broadway company managers, Broadway performers, teaching artists, photographers, event producers, vocal & career coaches, and even participated in the workshop of a new Broadway musical. In addition to mentorship, they also explored Deepa Iyer’s Social Change Ecosystem Framework and worked with employees from Glamazon (Amazon’s LGBT affinity group) on asset-forward presentations, public speaking, interview prep, and confidence building. BAE will be bringing this programming back to The Center in the Fall, as well as expanding to the Terrie Hess Child Advocacy Center in Salisbury, NC.

The work that BAE has done through this internship program is inspiring. These kids are not only confident and full of energy -they radiate hope. As a mentor, I felt like I received a lot more than I gave just by listening to their stories, their aspirations and projects. I hope the program continues to grow and impact the lives of queers kids for many more years to come.” - Daniel Berezowsky, Senior Human Rights Manager, Amazon

“I was so impressed with the participants in the Center BAE program.  They were enthusiastic and eager to learn, and hopefully some of them will move forward and join the theatrical industry both onstage and backstage.” - Susan Sampliner, Company Manager of Wicked on Broadway
