Interns Light Up the 2024 Shanti Bhavan Arts Camp
For this year's Shanti Bhavan Arts Camp, we teamed up for the first time with Azim Premji University, a nearby university with a similar mission to Shanti Bhavan: using education to contribute to well-being and social justice for some for historically disadvantaged and underserved communities. They sent four amazing interns minoring in arts education to join in on the fun. They were there to learn from our team of seasoned teaching artists, but also jumped right in, helping with classes and games, leading lessons, and being wonderful role models for our campers.
Seeing the interns connect with the students was the best part. One intern said, "Working with the kids was the best! They're so enthusiastic and bright." One intern shared how impressed he was at how we all embraced the "Live in the Orange" spirit – trying new things and expressing ourselves freely. He remarked at how in design class, even though some students had never painted before, they fearlessly dove right in, excited to explore “Seeing their confidence blossom was amazing.”
Another intern said, "This was an incredible experience! I learned so much and would love to come back." We can't wait to see what the future holds for this exciting partnership, as we add educating the next generation of educators to our resume!
