Broadway Field Trip: SUFFS
On December 12, BAE took 83 students from 5 different schools across NYC to see SUFFS on Broadway. For most our students and teaching artists, this was their first introduction to the stories of the women’s suffrage movement, and the experience made a lasting effect on our hearts, minds, and curriculum. Over the course of the second semester, our students will be learning the finale song, “Keep Marching” while exploring themes of perseverance, marginalization, advocacy, and allyship through performing and visual arts. They will all convene on Saturday, May 3 at Lincoln Center for our 5th annual Art Share to present their work to each other and the public - save the date! Great theater contains a story and a message that stay with you long after the curtain falls. While we are sad to hear that SUFFS closed its doors in early January, we are so grateful that we got to be audience members and honored to keep the show’s inspiring message alive in our classrooms across NYC. A huge thank you to Joe Cherner for making this opportunity for our students possible!
