Dr. Chris on Perfection

In SB Choir, we encourage our students to strive for excellence, rather than perfection, because the former is humanly attainable. This standard is also very much in line with "living in the orange," a mantra of our organization that reminds all of us to challenge ourselves realistically and lean into healthy uncomfortability, rather than uncomfortability that stems from living in the red or setting unrealistic standards. From a Culturally Responsive Teaching Pedagogy perspective, achievable goals are affirming and allow students to feel reinforced for academic development, particularly those students for whom the school was not traditionally designed."
